Chicken got attacked by raccoon, has a hole under her wing

Can you trim any feathers away from the wound? Use the saline or Vetericyn to spray the wound twice a day, then dry and apply the Neosporin. Yes, you may be seeing fat. Wounds like these will eventually heal in time, filling in and the edges coming together.
Thank you! So is her internal exposed right now? I stopped using saline and vetericyn because I wasn’t sure if it is safe to spray if that is inside her body. She kept trying to get way from me when I use Saline to spray that hole. If it is ok to spray, I will continue to do that. Do I still need to buy Hibiclens/chlorhexaidene or 10% Betadine/povidone iodine, and aqua mox? If so, I see online it says aqua mox generic, would that be ok to use for chicken ? Do you have any recommendations where to buy those things you mentioned ? Thank you so much !

Saline is what is used to irrigate wounds and exposed organs in surgery, so it is the best and mildest thing to use. You can make some at home by boiling a quart of water and 2 tsp of table salt, then cooling it and placing it in a clean jar. A smaller amount is 1 tsp per 16 ounces of water, or 1/2 tsp per 8 ounce cup.

Amoxicillin or Aqua Mox is not available due to a shortage. Other antibiotics may be available online or from your vet.

Hibiclens chlorhexidene is available in WalMart in the first aid aisle. They also sell Equate First Aid Antiseptic, a brand of Betadine povidone iodine in the same aisle. Get some help to clean her wound until it becomes easier.

Thank you for your help . My hen’s hole sealed but it looks super weird. She was acting normal for a week. But since yesterday, she is hopping and not moving much. Now is looking like this. It’s a very hard lump where the hole was. What do you suggest to do now ?

It looks like it covered with a hard scab. I would try to soak it with a warm saline compress to soften it so that healthy tissue underneath can be uncovered. Did you keep this covered with antibiotic ointment? That is what I would be doing after softening the scab.

Can she walk around? How is she doing overall?

She was perching all night on a stick. She doesn’t move much. Her appetite also went down. She just wanted to lay down on one spot. Her poop is runny again. She could only hop on one foot. She wasn’t walking around much. Under her wing doesn’t smell as much as when she had the open hole. She was doing very well the past week, walking, pecking , eating just like normal. But since yesterday it suddenly went downhill. I spayed some vetericyn yesterday. Should I use the vetericyn or neosporn ointment? Or just use saline several times a day to keep it moist? Since the hole is not there anymore , I didn’t use much medicine.

I would go with what azygous and mystery chicken said. You need to moisten the scab so that the wound can heal. If possible can you isolate her in a crate so she doesn't have to move around as much? Once the scan lifts the wound can finish healing.
