I can't say whether or not the other rooster was trying to kill him. When you have two males together and there are females as well, you can have fighting. The other guy was showing dominance for sure, but that is what roosters do.

I'm still learning about behavior, so you may want to ask about flock dynamics in the Chicken Behavior forums. Sometimes they just won't get along, so you may have to provide separate areas for the boys and their girls - just a thought.

thanks! yes, Hats is adorable. When he was a chick he ran around everywhere showing off.
the mean roo has a favorite hen, and Hats used to bully her. do you think that has anything to do with it?
