We'll just get a couple hens, y'now, for the eggs, so get the good producers...and then maybe some Polish...and maybe a couple Barnevelders because they're pretty...and why not a Crèvecœur even though they wont lay eggs for eight months...and maybe come colored egger's because everyone needs color in their life...the math, it has struck and struck hard. Let's see if I have the order right on the pics, though not all were down for a photoshoot. First up is our lady in white, Matilda the Light Brahma and boss of the flock. then our Polish cockerel who has yet to be named, then our nameless brown leghorn next to one of our Barnevelder, Lady Catherine (or Lady Elizabeth, can't really tell them apart yet) then the 'true Americauna' we paid big money for that are almost definitely easter egger's (but we still love 'em). next to the rubbermaid we have our Black Copper Maran and our Crevecoeur who is unhappy we had to put ointment on her neck so she's hiding and last pic captured was our only *hopefully* pullet out of the three Polish we gambled with. Not accounted for are our unnamed White Leghorn, our Black Sexlink Wednesday, one Barvevelder, a Polish cockerel, our Austra-White, Sleepy Dum Dum and our youngest batch, a black 'Americauna' and two Olive Eggers who are only about a week old right now. I...may have an addiction...

@Everbloom Urban Homestead, you have some real lovelies there! And, at least your "addiction" results in some beautiful eggs!

I am always happy to hear about other people's chicken math. I lost four hens over the brutal winter, so I was going to get TWO chicks this spring.

There are now six babies in the brooder. I have to make myself avoid the local feed store next week when I know they are expecting to receive some Dominique chicks, one of the breeds I've wanted for years.

BTW, Sleepy Dum Dum is a unique name for a chicken. :) I'm guessing she's a one-of-a-kind girl?

oh man, we have to avoid our feed store too, we cant help putting our name on the list for all the pretty babies lol. I think we still have a blue or splash americauna on the way xD

Sleepy Dum Dum is beloved lol. when we got her at a day old, I thought she was either blind or had something going on upstairs because she'd stumble around or just...fall alseep? on anything and anywhere, especially if another chick was standing next to her. if held, she'd clonk out immediately and she was never as sturdy on her feet. My six year old niece suggested that maybe she was just a 'dum dum' and so came the name Sleepy Dum Dum, a nickname that stuck lol. At seven weeks now, she's a little smaller and a lot calmer then the others but is thriving.

Chickens are like crayons. You need one in every color. At least I know I do.
