Name: Letty
Reason: The 2 Ameraucanas had no names. When she started being super affectionate like one of old of my chicks that passed away—her name was Charlotte (a Silver Phoenix that I got for my birthday)—doing the exact same behaviors. Well. Letty is just different enough to remind me of her. Now she looks for me and flies up to my shoulder, from the ground!!!

Name: Gwyneth
Reason: It just popped in my daughter’s head to name her this and Gwynie is such a tame snuggle-fluff of a girl! A Brahma, she has a very funny “dog-toy” picture that she fell asleep right after the picture. Such a softy that LOVES her mealworms I know it’s only one picture, but you just have to see the “dog-toy“ picture it’s so funny…

Name: TommyGirl
Reason: We thought that she was a male Barred Plymouth Rock, but never developed the blazing red comb and waddles. So then we just left Tommy and realized that it was the nickname of a character in the movie Carrie… One night I was holding her and said,”You having a boy name isn’t so weird TommyGirl”—ta-da! (Gwyneth and Tommy were bought together at a week old and act like sisters...God forbid you separate them!)

Name: Freja
Reason: I really went out on a limb to get an Ayam Cemani added to the mixed flock. She is SUPER soft and is such a sweet little lady. Sticks by the Barred Rock and Brahma so much that I almost named her Shadow. We are Scandinavian and love Norse mythology—hubby liked this over Shadow (the name of a dog he had— Can’t give a chicken a dog’s name)

Name: Goose
Reason: she is always sticking her little neck out further than I think it’s supposed to go… She just always does it and I say, “what are you? a goose?” And so that’s what we call her. Our little Goosey girl...And she is missing a left claw, so she has a little nub toe.

Name: Juniper
Reason: A partridge colored Silkie, this was a gift to my daughter, born on my other daughter’s birthday. They wanted to call her June and then one day I heard her called Juniper. She just loves jumping around in the juniper branch that is in the pen. Maybe???

Name: Barbie
Reason: The only reason I can think of that I named her Barbie, honestly, was for the ease of the family remembering her breed… She is a Barbu d’Ucclé and very energetic! So fast! I am trying to tame her down by putting food in my hand to give it to her, but all she does is just runs around and hops through my hand a bunch of times. She and the little Silkie are both slow growing and the same age. I thought my other chickens were loud when you separate them… Barbie has a chirping call that echoes through the garage and our house!

Reason: I'm not sure, she was black...and pretty....

Breed: Golden sphitzhauben or polish bantam cross???
Age: 6 months
Laying: Nope! Not yet!
Reason: She looked like a little kiwi bird when we got her! Her middle names are: kiwi, golden, golden nugget, the nugg, nugget, lil' nugget, kiwi baby, Kiwi kiwi, potato kiwi, potato, potato nugget, tater tot (whatever that is...never had one)...

Breed: Golden spangled Hamburg bantam???? A cross???
Age: 7 months
Laying: Nope!
Reason: She's a soft, custard sort of color, with black on top. When we got her she was white and black, with a hint of brown at her neck. She is the derpiest thing alive.
Nicknames: Derp queen, buk buk, quack, chai baby, weird chicken.
