Chickens and snakes

So while my girls were free ranging tonight one found a baby snake. I was freaking out hubby and I chasing the hen to get the snake from her. She is running full speed to try to keep her prize. Total chaos. We got snake from her. Thank god it was a king snake it was released very minor injury and probably traumatized from chase. But my concer is how likely would a hen be at taking a snake bit. Just curious

Very likely. My flock catches and eats small snakes like garters, mice and frogs frequently. And just about anything else that wont eat them first.

Do you mean being bitten by a venomous snake?

I'm sure it's possible and I would imagine it would kill the bird pretty quickly...but I don't remember reading many, if any, stories about it happening.
