Chickens In Des Moines Iowa..... How Many?

My family is planning to get 4 chicks and add them to our existing flock of 5 (To make 9) but we don't know who to contact to figure out how many we can have in our backyard.... So if anyone from anywhere in the U.S found someone who told them how many they could have (Prefferably in the Des Moines area) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know! We are planning a new coop to build and we need to know how many hens we can have.
