Chickens laying in the run

Hello all!
I have 29 chickens...all between 7-9 mos old and getting lots of eggs!!! I have 9 nesting boxes, 3 of which nobody lays in (although they go in bc there's poop In them). We have been finding small (new layer) eggs outside in the run...3 today. We have golf balls in all boxes. Surely they know where to lay???? Anything else I can do to get them in the box? On a side note, hubby and I killed and butchered 4roos today...first time! Whew what an experience!

New layers take a while to figure things out, give them some time.

If there's poop in your nests, they may be sleeping in them...a habit it would be good to nip in the bud, reassess your roosts.

Congrats on the rooster harvest, that should smooth things out in the coop!
