I have at least one or two hens laying eggs on the ladder roost, which then drop into the droppings board. An ideas why or how to stop it? these girls are light buff brahmas and just started laying steady this month (6 months old). Any help is appreciated. I had one hen that was roosting under the other on the ground and laying, i put a net under the bottom of the roost to keep her out, is this part of the pecking order or just an odd girl? She now sleeps on the floor in front of the roost, so she isn't the culprit. I have 11 hens and 6 nest boxes.

It should resolve itself in time. They're new layers, right? Their systems are immature and they're just getting the swing of things. My girls did that a few times when they started laying and will still do it if they've not laid for a few days or are coming out of molt. If they've already laid in the nesting box then they know what it's for, their bodies just haven't figured out the "time to lay an egg" signal.

Good luck and I hope they figure out their timing soon!
