How long does it take to get rid of the vulture hocks breeding Cochin to MF (I assume d'uccle). Doesn't it tend to rear its ugly head down the road? Thanks.

Breeding any color Cochin x MF D’uccle is not advised because you have to deal with muffs, long back, stiff feathers, tight feathers, culture hocks, a big comb, and very poor type for a Cochin. It will take years (10+ years) to breed out the D’uccle. Even then, there probably won’t be a show quality Cochin. Color wise, crossing MF to any other color, will probably not give the desired color. You may as well spend less time starting with and SQ Buff Columbian x SQ Black Mottled for the best results. Thank you. I didn't know exactly how the MF and calico was bred into the Cochins and didn't think the D'uccle was a good choice but it seemed logical.

Re your original question on mottle x mf chick down colour, I think I remember reading that the f1 will look like regular mottle chicks and may show some colour leakage later but that s about it. I have started the new thread for anyone breeding mfc
