My hen got a gash on her head from a unidentified predator a week or so ago , and we’ve kept it clean as our schedule allows.
The gash is healed but I’m concerned there’s a bit of a gap. Is this fine?
She’s a very happy hen and does all her normal activities, I just want to make sure she won’t get sick or anything.
Apologies for poor images.

Welcome to BYC. It looks like a scab that will eventually fall off as the wound fills in. I would apply some antibiotic ointment or coconut or hydrocortisone cream to keep it soft and promote healing. Do you have a rooster who may have pecked her head?

Something broke in to the coop and stole some eggs. Probably some scared possum that scratched them when running away. Coops been repaired and fully inspected.

Nice to know it’s just a scab :) I’ll keep it nice and clean so it can fully heal then. Ty!
