Sorry if this is a dumb question: We have 12 chickens and are building their coop and run. Would like to use an old Culligan Water Softener Plastic Tank and modify it to use as either a waterer or a feeder. Hasn't had anything in it for over 10 years. Would there be a danger in using it?

People who say there are No Dumb Questions should answer a few hundred.

Thanks so much for any help.

As the plastic was for a water softener system that is acceptable for human consumption, I thought it should be allright. It was a Culligan system and had a container of diatomaceous earth inside. Was used in the 70s and replaced in the 90s then emptied and stored. Any other thoughts?

I'm not sure what this container is...can you post a picture of it?

Dirty and dingy from sitting for 13 years. Simple for me to clean and use but not gonna bother if it is not a good idea.
