We usually let our 10 girls out for 1-2 hrs of supervised free ranging. They sort of have a route where they like to go, under some bird feeders for some seed, under trees for scratching and hunting things, digging holes for dust bathing, and or heading to the area where we dump grass clippings and brush dumping for worm digging.

Recently the dungeness crab season has opened in WA so we have been going out in our boat a couple of times to try our luck. So far we have had good success and the last 2 trips netted us limits each time. After cleaning the crab, cooking them, we`go under the carport to pick the meat out of the shells. This is a necessary chore to end up with some delicious eating. The past 2 "picking" efforts coincided with the chickens be out. WELL, these girls, being quite curious, now hang around us and pick up the pieces of crab that hit the floor or that BB tosses them tiny pieces. One or 2 of the girls jump onto the table to try and get some extra but get quickly pushed of the table!

With the warm weather, 80 or so, we give them iced water while they are walking around but they really like to watch us and we enjoy their diversion of our chores.

Great time of year!!!!

BB and few of the girls.

My girls love crustaceans, including the shells. They clean up all of our shrimp tails and even lobster tail shells! Once the lobster shells are dry and crunchy they will bang them in the deck or patio until they break them up into pieces small enough to eat. I love recycling seafood shells into eggs!
