Crockpot Incubator Saga III: Shipped Quails Eggs...?!

Pics
Mrs Kinkneck just dropped an egg :D
She’s indoors now, and spends most of the day with the babies.

Brooding this time around was surprisingly smooth, all 7 have made it, it’ll be 4 weeks in 2 days!

Next in my crockpot incubation adventures... Coturnix! Did I spell that right?

Holy yolks, these egg are soooo teensey and cute, I’m totally in love!!!

This hatch is going to be quite a challenge since most of the eggs have severely saddled air cells. USPS must have really manhandled the box considering the seller only lived 80miles away.

I let the eggs sit for 12 hours with no improvements to the air cells, so I figured they may as well just go in the pot.

Below is the crockpot set up that I drafted during last hatch...
I ended up removing the glass to promote moisture loss.

The basic premise is a crockpot plugged into a thermostat controller. It’s filled with water and then lined with a double layer of plastic (just a trash bag), making a cozy water bed for the eggs to sit on.

What I love about the pot incubator so far is that it’s low cost and easy to clean. Dumping out the water, rinsing the crock and switching out the plastic bag took me a grand total of 5 minutes.

The eggs have been in the pot for the past 16 hours. I've set them upright, but am at a loss as to how to turn them... Posted a thread in the quail forum asking for advice, hopefully someone will grant some soon!

Also, In case you noticed, I recieved 18 eggs, but there’s only 17 in the pot. Well that’s because one was cracked and .... I ate it.

Anyway, here we go... ladies and gentlemen... crockpot saga no.3. May the odds be ever in my favor :fl

Oh and, feel free to join in, whether you are also incubating or just to hang out. I also desperately need quail keeping advice while we wait for these eggs to cook!
Love this !! Trying to make this project. There is a towel is it damp or dry? How often did you switch out the plastic lining for your eggs to hatch?

Random update, but I finally hatched a gosling in the crockpot… kind of. These were originally under a goose who abandoned the nest. I had my banty take over 3 eggs and put the pipped egg in the crock pot for hatch.

but hey, it’s something!

This is so cool! For the last couple of years I've been hatching with a waterbed incubator. It is so much fun compared to the conventional circulated air, and since I just hatch for fun I got rid of my circulated air incubators this year so I'm committed to waterbed hatching! It is very different from the conventional...much to learn and very limited information, and very few people with experience to draw on. But you can buy waterbed incubators...they are very simple and very cheap, they come in many different sizes. They consist of a simple heat pad with a thermostat set into a styro foam cooler, and a bit of quilt batting to cover the eggs with. The one I've been using for the past three years the thermostat is now giving me grief. I just ordered a "self made" incubator kit from china...they sell the pads and thermostats in different sizes all the way up to 100 eggs(you'd need some really large bags and a huge cooler to set that up in...and if you want to hatch that many eggs you will do better buying something that can accommodate automatic turning) The kit costs about the same as the incubators, but the shipping is free, and I have a case for my waterbed that I really like now so I want to re use it. (The original cooler that came with the waterbed incubator needed a bag size I could never find)
