Crowing

I have three chickens and I have been told that at least one of them is a cockerel. Lately, whenever I am not around them, I hear a strange sound coming from a chicken and it kindof sounds like a strangled screaming sound. I think they maybe are trying to crow. They are about 8 weeks old and I would like to know what they are trying to accomplish with their strange sounds.
