So baby chick hatched today. Looks like minor prolapse vent, but first time mom hen kept trying to peck and draw blood from butt. So isolated baby and got it rested. Looks like some unabsorbed yolk on belly and legs. Feathers hard as a rock. I was trying to put the chick back in with the broody hen after dark, but still super crusty. Gave it a wipedownto get some pine shavings off that we're cemented to it. They came off with a soak.

But it back with Mom or wait a day and soak the rest off tomorrow?

Pic is after wash off, and after drying. Still hard as a rock.

It's still happy in my temp brooder. Another chick is hatching, so I am going to try to bathe it today and put it in under mom tonight.

I think it was an unabsorbed yolk sac that busted. But doesn't come off with wet paper towel.
Leave it to absorb and dry up on its own..Don't wet it because that invites bacteria into the umbilical..
