I brought home a day old chick today. She was eating and drinking heartily, and I went out for an hour this afternoon and came home to find her crop is very swollen. She is only having medicated chick starter and fresh water. Any advice on what to do?

They can end up with quite protuberant crops when they gorge on something. It may just be that. If the animal's not acting distressed and is still eating and pooping normally, don't worry. If she's not eating, or is not pooping, or both, then it's an issue. Could be an internal blockage but only time (and certain behaviors) will tell.

Thank you, that's reassuring. She is still quite energetic and otherwise seems normal. Should I remove the food overnight or is it okay to leave it there? She is in the brooder with just one other chick.
