Do Any of Your Ducks ATTACK Your Legs?

I have my pet ducks and I have mallards that I get eggs from and eat sometimes. I also duck hunt and eat wild ones. When I raised domestics the mean drake was the first in the pot! I used to keep paradise shelducks and that was the worst drake Ive ever encountered out of all geese, swans or ducks put together. Biting was bad enough but hitting you with the fronts of the wings was way worst!

Thanks all who responded letting me know I'm not alone! It is hard not to become attached, but my hubby was never an animal person (although I'm workin on him slowly but surely, hehe), so I have to justify keeping them somehow.

I never have tried wild duck myself, although I'm not opposed to giving it a try. My husband hunts caribou and moose all the time, so we are used to game meat, and he has mentioned a few times that he would like to try hunting for ducks or spruce hens. I have heard though that it is different from domestic duck.

Never tried Muscovies for meat either, though I've heard they are the best for this. The fact that they can fly makes it sound like it would be more difficult to keep them. I am tempted though to get one for hatching my runner eggs since they won't sit them for me - I have to use an incubator. They also look super cool, so that's a bonus.

spiderlady - I complely understand. And yes the duck we had was wild. Tasted terrible! Yuck! It might be different on a homegrown duck, so I might change my mind. However, right now my ducks are pets and also my breeders so they will not be eaten. The new ducks I will be hatching will be for breeding, and then for eggs. Any extra drakes may be eaten...if I can get anyone to do the job or be sold of given away. Our family is not big on duck meat. I am very glad it is working out for you though! We have our chickens, cows, wild turkeys, deer, etc for meat.

Yes they do! Ouch! That is one reason I do not like picking up the big duck, he will slap the tar out of you! Oww!
