Do Mandarins have to be in pairs or Can they be trios?

This is my first year raising Mandarins and I just purchased a white Mandarin hen for my odd # drake - right now I have 5 drakes and 4 hens. The person I am buying from offered me two hens, which would give me 6 hens and 5 drakes, would the odd # hen get bred from one of the drakes? Or do they just pair up?

I've read that it is best to keep them as pairs. They typically pair up, but if I've read correctly, the extra hen will be bred once the preferred hen begins nesting. I'm sure there is someone else who knows more about this than myself.
