do silkie hens raise hackles??

my one blue silkie is adorable, and we hope she is a girl, but she raises her hackles when we pick her up! does anyone know if this only happens with roos?

My hen does when she's feeling especially irritated or is trying to intimmidate another bird. It's a 'chicken thing'. Not just males do it. Though it is more common among roosters.

Both females and males raise their neck feathers. Often a female does it to intimidate, to soak up light or heat, or other reasons. . .
