Doing Fecal Floats at Home

Pics
Did you happen to measure these? If these coccidia were from a chicken, the worm egg might be too big to be Heterakis.
The smallest chicken Eimeria is 16x21µm (see Foreyt Table 44, p. 155).  Heterakis is 13x larger whereas Ascaridia is 20x larger.
On your second image the worm egg is 17x larger than the cysts.

Great photos!

Agree - the larger eggs also look like Ascarids (roundworms) - well done BTW!!

I've been fighting coccidiosis (I think) in this flock for about year. I've lost several birds along the way to coccidiosis (bloody poops>near death>cull) or resulting enteritis (bloody poops>really smelly poops/diarrhea>near death>cull).

Not finding things...those poops look pathological to me - am I just being a nervous Nellie? Kathy??
Off subject, but for the cocci, you might try adding ACV to their water between medicating. It should help until you can get the cocci under control.

Thanks! I'm climbing up that learning curve with an ice pick. I appreciate the professional help.

Yes, thank you very much for chiming in!

BOTH of you.

I've been trying to get some good pictures (without much luck).
Here is one. I love these - easy to identify!
Everything below is from fecal smears, some stained.

But then there are these UFOs...none as good as KSKingBee's microscopic exploding pea..
Quote:

Somebody's cyst...

This is a smear from a cloacal swab - poor bird!

Higher magnification of above

another shot - maybe the big one is a Giardia cyst...

There were lots of these little green football-like things with no obvious internal structure....
They are on a background of rod-type things

This is a clearer view of the rod-type things. Yeast perhaps?

Here's an iodine stain of them

This is a gram stain of a cecal poop smear. All the
stained things in this photo are much smaller than the rods above.
I'm hoping these might be from the probiotics....

@Garden Peas , read this thread.

I have been going through this thread and am totally amazed at the level of information and outstanding photography and "how to" info.

This is one of the most helpful, most informative threads we've ever had.

I already wore out my clicker button for the day

At some point, this should become a sticky...

First it was your question mark key and now the clicker? We are going to have to get you a new laptop.

@zeppley is really going to town with the pics. She is so much better and contributing soo much, thank you!
How is the centrifuge working for you? Did you get a new camera too?

My slides are getting pretty boring, no cocci or worm eggs showing up now.
