Hi all!
I am incubating some duck eggs and had a question. I typically lay them on their side and roll them over 5 times a day. I was told by a coworker that they need to be upright. What are your thoughts on how it is developing? Is the big white side normal? What can I do to make it better? Thanks in advance, I have some photos below. When I move the egg, the inside moves.

Your embryo looks very healthy! The white at the bottom is an air sac. When a chick is ready to hatch, it pops open the air sac to give it air to breathe until it pips a hole. During incubation, the air sac should get larger and larger. I believe your turning schedule is on point also. I hope this helps, and good luck. PS, what day are you on, and what incubator do you use?

Laying them on their sides is fine some auto turners do have eggs upright just so they are being turned like you are doing will be fine. Do you have them marked so you can turn them 180 degrees.

Like OP stated its the air cell and humidity is what controls how big or small it is by losing fluids in the egg. There are charts that show how big air cells should be at different days of incubation. What humidity are you running in your incubator?

Thank you everyone for a response.
The eggs are marked so I know how to turn ‘em. The incubator was one off Amazon, it has a yellow top. It said automatic turkey but I found they were not being turned after the first day. They are on day 6 today. Glad to hear they are doing good! Humidity is up to check
