My quail will ignore their dirt if I mix in too much DE, so I've had to back off a bit.

I'd advise against it, I know lime will chemical burn human skin if not washed off in a timely manner. I can't imagine what it would do on thin skinned birds trapped under their feathers...

i had never gave mine anything for a dust bath , till i read this.

sunday i was cleaning out the bbq pit read the one on stove ash so i gave it a try
they loved it ges i need to bbq more often

I've only done straight dirt and they love it. Didnt think about the ash...can it be from a camp fire???

i would think so as long as it's not from treated wood
