Dust baths in cold weather? Help!

Hi,

Living in extreme Northern Wisconsin, is it necessary for hens to be provided a dust/dirt bath area in winter?

yes. Just fill a kitty litter pan with dirt and place it in the coop is that's all you can do. If you can put it in the sun, they'll really enjoy it.

Agreed @Percheron Chick. The sand / dust is more than just fun and games for the chickens. Any shallow pan that's big enough for your chickens to flop around in will do fine. Dust bathing is a social activity for the chickens, too. If you could put two pans close to each other, that would be great.

Thanks for the replies. Being new to chickens, we didn't know if the bath was really needed in cold weather. I'll get them some sand/dirt to bathe in!
