Early February 2016 Hatch - Who's In?

Depending on the age of the egg, there might not be a huge air sac. Not to sound like you don't know what you are doing but just to be sure, are you candling the large end? Are they shipped eggs?

This is how 16 of the 24 look, half dark half light. The one with visible veining looks like this but with veins. I can make out a small darker circle within the dark shadowy area, I have no idea what I'm looking at. ive looked At lots of candling pictures and can't really find ones that look like this.

I DON'T know what I'm doing so that's totally fine! No I was candling them small end toward the light, the few that were mostly clear looking I turned over fat end down but then I wasn't sure if I was not supposed to do that so I didn't do it anymore. Am I supposed to turn them over large end down to candle? I'm feeling really dumb right now!
They were eggs from my own hens. The oldest were less than a week. I sold four dozen hatching eggs immediately before these and they were developing great per the buyers most recent description.
I can try to take a photo of that'll help.

I asked because with shipped eggs, the air cell could be on the side or it can move when you tilt the egg. Trust me, I had no clue on incubating eggs until my broody Rouen hen was scared off a nest at day 20 (duck eggs are 28 days) and I made a makeshift incubator. Let's just say I didn't know about this board and none of them made it. :barnie. In the beginning it is all new and until it comes up that we don't know it, I never doubt that I wouldn't be doing it right. Let me see if I can find a video to give you some additional help on easier ways to candle.

HOW TO CANDLE EGGS

There are two different ways to effectively candle eggs. One pertains to shipped eggs and the other to non-shipped eggs.

When candling shipped eggs FOLLOW this:

1. With a flashlight ALWAYS keep the eggs upright, large/fat/air cell up, its best to leave them in the egg carton. ALWAYS candle from the FAT end/air cell so it shines DOWN through that open space into the egg, AGAIN, put flashlight on FAT end/aircell and hold egg upright/fat end up and do not turn or rotate egg, rotate flashlight!

2. When candling shipped eggs extra care must be taken to not dislodge the aircell when candling.

When candling non-shipped eggs FOLLOW this:

1. With a flashlight or other candling aperture hold the egg at a slight angle, large end to the light. Making sure your fingers don’t block the light, turn the egg slowly until either you see something or you’re certain there’s nothing to see.

2. Again candle carefully so as not to dislodge anything.

This is a good short article on reasons to NOT candle too much.

FIRST IMAGE....

is only to show you how they cup the end of the flashlight in their palm to protect egg and send light down into egg.

THE SECOND IMAGE shows you how to hold the egg UPRIGHT and candle down into it!

AGAIN, ALWAYS keep fat end up, at candles when they are messed up from shipping!

Thank you @shahtir101 and @ambe0487! Yep, I was candling upside down, wow. I feel super smart!! Lol. Well I took this very same egg and shined the light down from the top as shown and saw a completely different set of stuff, an air sac and a blob off to the side! I did a few others just to see and they were much more disappointing, an air pocket but then just very liquidy stuff that moved when I turned the air slightly, not promising looking. I'll leave them won't bother anything for a week or so and then I should know for sure. Booo.
Also lots of my eggs are pretty porous, I guess I need to address that before I try incubating again.

I did that on my first hatch too. Sorry about the other ones. When I incubate I collect eggs for 5 days and then set those and wait another 5 days and set another clutch. That way they are somewhat fresh
