A hen was unfortunately found dead this afternoon. She was perfectly fine yesterday, let us pick her up and everything. Then today while out in the run I found her dead. We looked her over, no injuries, no mites, her feathers fairly clean. But it looks like she was in the middle of a poop? There was not poop around her vent, but like half of one coming out?

Could she have been constipated and died straining?

Or is this what happens when they are egg bound? We haven't gotten an egg from her in a few days but I assumed she was just stressed. We recently had a bear attack, but the bear isn't what caused her to die.

You could try doing a brief necropsy to look at her abdominal organs while taking some pictures. Some hens have salpingitis, and may have large lash eggs that could get stuck. Some chickens do get constipated. Could she have had a prolapsed vent and became egg bound? Do you have a picture of her vent area? Sorry for your loss.
