My Leghorn hen always lays her egg in a nesting box but this one was found on the shed floor with a hole in it and the shell was not as strong as her normal. I cracked the egg in a small bowl with intentions to scramble and feed back. This "alien" looking object I thought was the strangest egg I've ever cracked. The hen produces huge eggs (2.8oz is normal for her). Any ideas what this is? Thanks in advance.

Did you happen to cut that thing in half?
Looks like it could be a 'lash egg', definite sing of infection.
They usually aren't inside an egg, but it's possible.

How old is your bird?
High production breeds can be more susceptible to reproductive system maladies.
