No. Some eggs are fairly soft when first coming out. The wrinkling happens when such an egg hits the ground. You can give calcium on the side for them to freely peck and that should help prevent it.My hen started laying odd shaped eggs. Is this a sign of illness i should worry about?View attachment 3429092
This is not true. If it comes out 'soft' it's gonna stay that way. Some eggs are fairly soft when first coming out. The wrinkling happens when such an egg hits the ground.
That's called a slab sided egg, could be a one off from stress, could be respiratory disease. My hen started laying odd shaped eggs. Is this a sign of illness i should worry about?
Thanks this is good info. Could be stress. We gave away our rooster reciently. the hen that laied this egg is his favorite. I think she is having trouble adjusting without him. I will add some vitamins in the water too just encase. This is not true. If it comes out 'soft' it's gonna stay that way.

Had these from 2 birds all one winter, they both had mild respiratory issues, both symptoms declined(with no treatment) after a couple months.
A long as birds are eating/drinking/pooping/moving around OK, I'd not worry.
Just give her time.I will add some vitamins in the water too just encase.
I just ment to help encase its a virus. But yeah probably just stress.Just give her time.
As long as you are feeding a good layer ration, and not too many treats,
more vitamins won't do much but make you feel like you're doing something.
What's an RSL?I have an old RSL that lays these all the time & she‘s ok. Her last 3 eggs in front.
