My my girls just started laying. The problem is that they have laid one in the run, one from the roost, that one obviously broke, and four in one nest box. Will they eventually use the nest boxes? We have six boxes and they have only used one. We think only two of the hens are laying. Six eggs in two days, all small. Is this normal? I thought they only laid one a day. Do we have to worry that they will lay while they are out in the yard. I think they are Red Starr and Rode Island Reds. If I seem to be rambling, well...I am. This is so exciting!

Yes, they will get them into the nesting boxes. New pullets can get surprised by the egg coming and not make it back to the nest. All it will take is one girl to lay there consistently and the others will follow. If you find a nest elsewhere in the coop, mess it up when you collect the egg.
