Emu chick keeps tucking their head underneath herself. She does this seemingly randomly and once she goes back up she goes right back to eating and drinking and pooping and having the zoomies. She’s about 4-5 weeks old. She’s on ratite, emu chick specific feed, gets lots of kale, veggies, fruit (grapes strawberries, etc) plus vitamin supplement. We thought maybe a vitamin b deficiency but even with the vitamin b supplement it’s still happening. She eats and drinks just fine, poops great, doesn’t seem to be in distress or having trouble breathing when this happens. She’s been getting the zoomies, and her sibling hasn’t been having the same issues and has been thriving. We’re at a loss for what to do and need any advice available. Don’t have access to an emu vet in our area.
Good morning. Hopefully the little one will be ok. Almost looks neurological, but could be a deficiency. I would try vitamin e and selenium. It looks similar to wry neck.
I agree, looks like it's probably a selenium deficiency. You can pick up some selenium paste for goats at TSC and give the chick a pea-sized amount. I would also trying adding E and Selenium to the water, in the form of vitamin supplements.
