Excessive flies

I've heard the scent of vanilla repels insects so I have a vanilla air freshener hanging in my coop (the chickens can't get to it) and I haven't seen a single bugger in there.

I use dried herbs, peppermint, tansy, spearmint and lemon balm sprinkled in with the litter. Natural bug repellant. Grow some around the coop. You can cut them throughout the growing season and hang them to dry. I have a big coop and hang them there, then just crumble and spread them around
