I am new here to Back Yard Chickens, and new to raising chickens! We received 2 Buff Orpington chicks as an Easter gift to our 2 boys (4ys and 6yrs old)! We have since added 3 more for a total of 5 chicks (all Buff Orpingtons...the only breed the feed store still had in stock, and from what I read on BYC they seem to be a good breed to start with). When I was young (elementary years) we had a few chickens and ducks, however I didn't have any experience with anything other than helping feed them. We just moved to our property to start our small farm, and the chickens are a welcomed addition. Thanks in advance to all the experienced chicken handlers out there for the wisdom you've shared. I am sure I will have a lot of questions!

Thanks again, and I'm excited to be a part of BYC!

Welcome!

As you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
