I used to bake them to kill any bacteria on the shells, but now I just wash the eggs before putting them in cartons, so i don't worry about baking them now. I just toss them in a coffee can above the wood stove to dry them off. They crush easier if dry. Then I crush them up very small and feed them to the girls.
 
Thank you everyone for all your information! I'm about to dry and feed my hens my first few dozen eggshells and this was exactly the thread I needed to read! Thanks everyone!
