what is safe for the chicken to eat, she walks around my apartment and picks up crumbs and Im about out chicken feed.... any recommendations?

If you run out of feed there are lots of common things in your kitchen your chicken can eat. Rolled oats and any other grains you have, grain cereals, noodles, rice, seeds like sunflower or pumpkin, all fruits and vegies ( but know this will make the poop more liquid and smelly if it's a big % of the diet) most like bread, and they all love meats, eggs milk and milk products.

Basically a chicken can (and will) eat anything (that dosn't eat it first)

Is there some reason, like a blizzard or inches of ice on the roads, why you can't pickup a bag of layer pellets at your local feed store? That would be the best thing you could do for her. It has complete nutrition that she needs. If you can't, then what has been suggested would do for the short term. However, I'm pretty sure the rice needs to be cooked before feeding or could make her sick.
