Fencing off portion of creek...is it possible?

Can you just dig a mini-pond near the creek and have it fill naturally? Then place the fencing betwix the pond and creek on dry ground? A tube can then be added to the mini-pond for run-off purposes.

Depending on the flow of the creek at times and what travels down it (logs and brush) it could damage the under water fencing. Also, the fencing material may not hold up well and rust.

Here's a few ideas ...

This info below is for a rather large pond, but the priciples are easy to miniturize it.

I'm not sure how I would dig out a pond, and the soil in the area photographed is saturated with water and would be really difficult to move. I don't even really like walking down near the creek because the soil is deep and sucks your boots off.

I don't think you should. The water will stay cleaner and healthier if it is part of the creek, the water flow is good for them.
