hi guys,
just wanted to let you know that i have 4 palms and one mix developing nicely.i started a week or so late but reading because this is my first turkey hatch.i am now worried about blackhead,i live in georgia and i only have chickens so i may be in trouble.off to do more reading.

oh,and i set them with duck eggs,is will this be a problem on hatch day?

I emailed UConn, and the poultry specialist advised houseing the turkeys and chickens separately even though I am in a low risk area.

I have a turkey poult.













Just got home from a wedding a bit ago and found a fluffy dry Bourbon Red. I candled prior to lockdown and figured 3 of the 5 were good, but one was way ahead of the others. This is that poult!

It looks like I MAY get 1 or two more tomorrow, otherwise, this is 1/26. Very disheartening.

I'm glad for the one, however. Very tired, worn out. Coyote picking off birds since Thurs. Got my best Partridge Silkie momma and a couple of chicks, one of my Konza roosters, and a guinea. Right in the middle of the day, one at a time, in 3 hours. Schmuck. I could sit around with my 9mm all day (it's all I have) but it's not going to show itself...and the woods are dense (all poison ivy, if you recall) and there's no way to find it. I have a game cam, and will set it up to confirm. I also have a GIANT live trap, but I can't see one deciding to go in it for anything...right?

97* heat index right now. Might as well unplug the incubator, because it's 58% humidity, too!! Sheesh.

Wow mine are not really due until Monday....I have them hatching in the incubator because I was too lazy last night to move them to the hatcher who needs a hatcher...worse I'm not going to look at the humidity I have pips in most of the eggs and I don't have much water left so now what should I do as I turned off the turner the hatched ones jumped right down to the bottom..last batch was right on time and I locked them down a day late also and I have to leave....somebody hold my hand I've already lost my mind

I have 2 questions I need help with

1) I had a turkey helper hatch (silkie) it looks like 2 loops of it's intestines are outside. Will they go back in by themselves? Do I need to do anything. If there's no hope, whats the best way to cull?

2) I have a turkey egg pipping. There's like foam coming out of the chip. Anyone ever had this?

I just culled a 7 day old, it's physically easy, mentally a challenge. PM me if and when you are ready to cull.

It might heal. I had one that had its insides wrapped around its leg. It healed. We snipped it and applied twice daily triple antibiotic ointment.



We cull by chopping the head off. It's quick, and minimally horrid for all parties involved.

If you can't see it on the above picture the hernia is actually wrapped around the chicks leg. It couldn't walk, because it was pulling its intestines out further. We snipped what was around its leg to free the leg. There was still a large gob of flesh left on the stomach, that gradually receded with antibiotic ointment treatment.

Sorry I'm trying to envision what exactly is being snipped as I'm sure you don't mean that you actually cut the intestine itself.
