It's a relief to hear I shouldn't worry - my chickens will need a few more months to mature before beginning to lay. They are just 5 months old..

They free-range in our secure yard during the day, and have taken refuge from the heat under the horse trailer.

You have some good laying breeds. I have had all three breeds and still have Buff Orpingtons and Black Australorps. My Orpingtons and Australorps are very friendly, calm, and gentle birds; and good layers of large, brown eggs (the Australorps are exceptional layers). Good luck with your flock.
