My apologies, just read your post about your girls. That is very traumatic, especially for a first time chicken owner. We're in mountainaire and have 15- our problem is raccoons. They are so aggressive! Haven't lost any to them fortunately. We partnered with a friend in ordering chicks this year, so won't be ordering for awhile. Wasn't going to do it this year but we caved.
