A few days ago, I soaked my wheat berries for 8 hours, rinsed lots and lots and placed them in pans with holes punched for drainage. I rinse them again, allowed them to drain and placed them in another pan with space between to continue to allow for drainage. I did this every day and by the third day, I noticed a little white fuzz growing on some seeds. I picked them out and rinsed the rest of the seedlings really well. By the fifth day (as pictured) the fungus took over. The entire container is covered in a white spiderweb type growth with some black specks in places.

I am assuming this is fungus or mold, but I don't know why it happened and how to prevent it in the future. Also, I am presuming I shouldn't feed this to the birds, but can it be composted safely or is it like when you get a plant with fungus and are supposed to destroy it?

I looked on the forums and elsewhere and haven't really found any answers. Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like a combination of too much water and too little light..
Don't feed it to your chickens...
