Genetic hackle (fly tying) color ID gene questions

because it's obvious how the gene & color relate when I say it that way.

Last thing - barred white birds. Obviously a possibility, right? That you could have a white chicken, who would have a copy of the barring gene, but wouldn't visually appear to because it would blend in with the overall color.

Yes, definitely happens.
I've read that it is common for White Leghorns to be barred (genetically speaking), although of course they just look white.

I've also seen some photos and discussions of "ghost barring," when white barring on a white chicken is somewhat visible. Here is one example:
