that photo was really helpful as that is exactly the type of thing I am looking to put down, I also think that the a few bags of sand on top would be usful and I can add a few bags every no and then as the sand will undoubtly was away over time....thanks for all you advice, force 11 gales forecast this weekend in shetland so I doubt I'll be working on it tomorrow

I'm sure I'll get there eventually and I will take the advice about not thinking about it too much, just looking to give the best I can to the chickens
