Had to put my hen down today

Her inside was all out she was in obvious pain. But I still don't feel any better about doing it. Had I been prepared to do so not just walked out to a bloody mess. Feeling pretty down.

Thank you it sucks when they get hurt my ladies are egg layers and I have maybe to much attachment to them they are part of my family

It's best to try and prevent these type of illnesses.
Keeping your flock on a strict balanced diet goes a long ways.

By strict I mean very very few, if any at all, treats.
Age appropriate pelleted or crumbled type feed is best.

The same is true for chickens. It would be no kindness to prolong its suffering in that condition. You revealed yourself to be of good character in acting promptly as you did - if you must mourn, mourn the bird's absence from your life, but do not dwell on the act that ended it.

I'm sorry you had to experience this. When having children or animals we All must make difficult decisions sometimes for the wellbeing of the one involved.
