Hanging cabbages

Mine get plenty of activity just pecking and kicking a cabbage on the ground.
No point hanging it.
At the end of a day, 10 chickens leave nothing but a leafless core.
I don't think it changes egg flavour but it probably helps make yolks darker, like most green veggies do.

I can't come up with a sauerkraut and chicken joke .... so NEVERMIND.

Huh...that sounds like a good idea. Never tried hanging cabbage in their pen for 'em. They probably are bored now so I am definitely going o try it!

Well, I had to take the cabbage out to get them to go to bed! Then the next day I hung it back up and left them shut in. Now it's not such a monster and it has almost been all eaten!!

I read in Back Yard Poultry mag. that beets were good for chickens, so I bought organic beets with tops at my grocery store [thats all they had organic] and hung it inside their coop, boy did they love that. So now I switch off cabbage one week beets the next.

My chickens refuse to go out in the snow and some have begun pecking others. A game of cabbage tetherball seems to help alleviate the boredom.
At first they ignored the hanging cabbage, but quickly discovered it's the same as the one they usually find on the hen house floor.
The cabbage seems to last a little longer hanging from the ceiling.

Thanks for the great idea, BYCers!
