You say get one, chickens are group/flock animals so you'll need at least 2 or 3, sorry to say it. That may not be what u mean I'm just checking!
Breed: Black Australorp
Gender: hen
Pros: Great layers, sweet, pretty, just wonderful chickens! They lay about 350 eggs a year, most hens only lay about 330 - 340 eggs a year depending on their breed, they lay beautiful brown eggs, and I cant think of any cons about the Australorp!

Next breed I like....
Breed: Americauna/Easter Egger
Gender: Hen
Pros: They lay green or blue eggs, They are super cute and all out good looking
Cons: Cant think of any
Pictures:

This is an Americauna/EE rooster

Out of the 2 breeds I would go with Australorp just because they are so sweet but they are both great chicken breeds.
If you have any questions about the Australorp or Americauna/EE feel free to PM me I will reply what I know and I hope you are able to get chickens!

Breed: Silkie

They keep bugs out of your garden, but aren't annoying like some chickens when they scratch around in your lettuce patch...
Cons: They sometimes get messy as they are so fluffy.
