Hawk!

I don't want to loose anyone at all, but free ranging has risks, and sometimes things don't go well. This in not how I want to reduce numbers for winter! Mary
Goodness no! Definitely, I agree with you!
But I have seen other threads about free ranging mention that loss is part of the deal. No guarantees, but I just can't push my luck.

For the past few days a hawk has been flying out of our trees when I get off the buds. It's BIG too.
I saw 4 hawks circling over a fir tree behind my house 2 days ago. This is the time of year that food sources are scarce for them, and trees have lost their leaves (less cover to hide in).
It's the toughest time when free ranging chickens. Be careful!

We have a pesky hawk! It just recently was trying to cage fight with a Rooster bigger than himself. The hawk did manage to intise a smaller chick that could out his head through the wire and the hawk hurt him. I have hung up aluminum pie pans (old timers idea) and rescued two barn kittens. Seems to have the hawk detoured for now
