Someone that raises both turkeys and chickens told me this today. She got turkeys a couple of years ago and last year and they kept dying around 4 weeks old. All of them. Trying to investigate why(she lives near East Texas), she was told turkeys catch a disease from chickens that is fatal to turkeys. Something carried in the soil. You have to keep baby turkeys separated from chickens until they're older and can resist this "disease". So she tried it this year (keeping the turkeys separate form the cchikens) and her baby turkeys are now 4 months old with no problems. So what is this disease carried in the soil from chickens?

Chickens can be carriers of blackhead. Chickens can be resistant to blackhead but it can be fatal to turkeys.

If blackhead is her problem, the turkeys won't be resistant to it when they are older. The turkeys must be kept separate from the chickens and off of any ground that the chickens have been on.
