Hi all,

I'm new to backyard chickens and new to keeping chickens. I ordered eggs from 4 different breeds and hatched them. Not all hatched and unfortunately I didn't keep a record of how many hatch from which type of egg, so now I have some chickens that I'm not sure which breed they are. I've been searching online but can find photos of each breed that look similar. I've taken some photos and hope someone will be able to tell me which of the three breeds, Cream Legbar, Sulmtaler, Swedish Flower Hen, each one is. First 4 are the roosters, next three hens.

1. Are you sure those are the only 3 breeds you got? He doesn't quite seem like any in honesty... Hmm
2. Swedish Flower
3. Looks like. CCL but he's got feathered legs, so I guess CCL mix or not a good CCL line? Another hmm
4. Cream Crested Legbar
5. Cream Crested Legbar
6/7. What hatchery did you get them from? These two also don't seem to fit the standard of the 3 breeds, which is odd. I mean unless someone's made some different varieties of swedish flowers, hmm, they're really gorgeous birds I wish I had more solid answers for you! :'(

Thanks Northwest_Wannabe, I got the eggs from an advert from a breeder .. he had a lot of breeds listed but I asked for the three breeds listed and French Black Copper Marans. Three of the FBCM hatched and they are easily recognised from the others. The rooster in pic 3 could be a Maran cross?

The guy I got them from said he was a registered breeder, but then when I did the paperwork for the dept agriculture he wouldn't give me any details and told me to just say I bought them in a market, he's not honest so maybe he didn't give me what I asked for.

You said CCL for number 3 .. what does that stand for?

CCL stands for cream crested legbar! :D #3 could be a marans cross, that does sound a little sketchy but he could have also been misinformed or not insanely experienced ( or egg colors are too similar?) So I don't know if it was malicious or cheating you or anything, the birds are big, healthy and beautiful : D The last two ladies colors don't look like any of the breeds but overall look and shape they do, so odd. Have you tried message him and seeing what he thinks? Or was it like on Craigslist where it doesn't give you their real email and such? : )

I suppose I could ask, he did reply when I asked about the paperwork .. worth a shot :D

In light of the others being mixes can you please have a look at my Marans and tell me if they look right?

This is an older thread but your crested chicks look like the Sulmtalers.. Although I thought they only came in wheaten & apricot coloured hens with the typical gold, red, green and black cock,... learning 😏

I have 3 new Sulmtaler bantams in my wee flock ... they are so cute. How do you find yours?

1, 2, 6, 7-Swedish Flowers
3-mix, most likely part Marans
4-mix, most likely part Cream Legbar
5-Cream Legbar
The Marans might be pure, just poor quality. The cockerel has a lot of leakage on his chest, but they at least seem to have white skin
