Her comb is falling off!

I have a sweet little hen, the children's favorite because she loves being held. But the other day, a rooster went to mount her and caught her comb, it was bleeding at the time but I thought it would heal on its own. Now, I don't know if she's scratching it herself, or if the other birds are grabbing it, but its barely hanging on now. Do combs grow back? Is there a way I can just cut the hanging part off, so the other chickens will leave it alone? Should I just let nature take its course? I'm at a loss as to what to do!

If the comb is barely hanging on, I would remove it. She will not regrow a comb.

How do yo do that? Scissors? Scalpel? Fingernail clippers? Have you ever done it? Sorry about the tirade of questions, I'm just not sure how to go about it.

I would use a pair of scissors. Have some styptic powder on hand to stop any bleeding.
