Hey, all you lurkers! (I mean YOU!) Register and talk to us! - 2022 Edition

Most people can find the answer to their question in a simple search without having to ask anything

Before I joined I had been using BYC for months before I had a question I couldn’t find an answer to anywhere and had to join and ask

Just my guess
I'm mainly on automotive/truck forums and so that you say that, I did the same thing for probably 3 years before I joined any forums!

What do you think they are?
I think they're people that find the site through googling something chicken related but see no reason to join.
I don't believe it's a bunch of bots and if it is I blame @TudyBOT. She's probably having all her bot buddies swinging by.
I don't blame it being season either. Ya I little but this thread was going last fall, winter and then spring.
I don't think a bunch of people worked in the winter and then joined in the spring or summer. The number of online members has been continuously declining and the number of guests has been skyrocketing.
But yeah seems people have no problem finding the place they just don't want to join. It'd be nice to track membership and see how much it's been growing during the same time frame.
What do we have like getting close to a half a million members but it's rare to get over a hundred members online at once? It's still a great informative site but people just don't want to be on here so much anymore.

Same here for several years, but was in a few chicken and gardening groups on Facebook and too busy with work to do much else. Somewhere in there I quit logging into Facebook for a year or two as it got so vile politically and otherwise, and joined here. A refreshing change! ☺️

This is creepy. That user being viewed hasn't been online in over 2 years.

Then when I clicked its name, it went to this website. It's safe as it would have been blocked by the virus scanner on my computer if not. https://www.semrush.com/bot/

When you click on any of the bot's names it will take you to their site.

These bots aren't "bad".

"A web crawler bot is like someone who goes through all the books in a disorganized library and puts together a card catalog so that anyone who visits the library can quickly and easily find the information they need. To help categorize and sort the library's books by topic, the organizer will read the title, summary, and some of the internal text of each book to figure out what it's about."

Wow, I never knew it was so "personal" sort of. Bots will be bots as I get them on my phone, email, Twitter, and other social media, but the ones that actually look at profiles of people who haven't been around is just weird. I'm naive about their capabilities or who is actually behind them. Like is a human being actually getting their jollies looking at this stuff?

I don't have time or desire to learn, just pointing out what I saw and went
