Welcome to BackYard Chickens! How big is your coop vs ratio of chickens? Whenever I am away from home for a few days, I have my chickens 'take care of themselves.' I keep them locked up until I'm back and I ensure they have more than enough food and water (with water in a place where it won't be dumped). Then, if I'm going to gone for a very long time, I have people come check on them, refill everything, and collect the eggs a day or two before everything is supposed to be empty.
If you’re only going to be gone for a night, I'd just keep them locked in the coop with a full feeder and waterer (depending how many you have, that is). They should be more than fine while you're gone unless your coop isn't predator proof. Best of luck!

We have varieties of ages all free-ranging and yes, there might be a squawk or two but then the younger ones know to go somewhere else. I'm sure they'll be fine, but it isn't worth you worrying about it either! Do what you feel you should!
