I have plenty of room in my brooder and I would like to add a dust bath for the chicks. Not sure how and what to put in it that will work best for them. Any ideas?

I've also used plastic containers from frozen cream puffs and eclairs, or low sided Tupperware containers :)

ok so y'all like them frozen cream puff things, but I kinda think Ritz may want to know what are you putting IN the empty containers for the chicks to dust in?

I am adding a question:

My chicks try to dust bath in the shavings, but it's winter here! (LOL) And the snow melt makes EVERYTHING wet- forget getting dirt from the yard! Cheap alternatives or free? I was thinking potting soil from a plant?
Psstt don't tell Mom!

I don't know about potting soil, especially if it has fertilizer pellets in it. Do you have anywhere to get dry dirt, like a crawl space or from under your porch maybe? That's where I've been getting mine, crawling under the porch with a Tupperware dish and a garden trowel :gig
If not, you can buy play sand fairly cheap! Or maybe pick any fertilizer bits out of the potting soil before you give it to them :)
